Which school is more prestigious for business: University of Maryland or Fordham University?

The biggest practical tradeoff is breadth versus location-specific access: Maryland’s Smith School carries a broader national public-university business reputation, while Fordham’s Gabelli School benefits substantially from being in New York City and near finance employers. For employers outside New York, University of Maryland is more likely to be immediately recognized as the larger, more established overall university. Fordham can have a particularly strong signal for students pursuing New York-based finance, accounting, media, real estate, or corporate roles.

Maryland’s business program is well regarded in the Mid-Atlantic, especially around Washington, D.C., for consulting, technology, analytics, government-adjacent business, and large-company recruiting.
