UCLA tends to offer the more varied and outward-facing social life, while Cornell often feels more campus-centered and close-knit. At UCLA, students can build friendships through residence halls, student organizations, athletic events, Greek life, and the broader Westwood/Los Angeles area. At Cornell, the relative isolation of Ithaca means classmates and campus communities play a larger role in day-to-day plans, which can make it easier to see the same people regularly and form a consistent circle.

UCLA’s location is a real differentiator. Westwood has restaurants, coffee shops, theaters, and student hangouts within walking distance, while Los Angeles adds concerts, beaches, museums, internships, and neighborhoods to explore.
