Is Fordham considered a commuter school?

I’m building my college list and I keep seeing mixed opinions about Fordham. Some people make it sound like lots of students go home on weekends, and others say it still feels like a normal residential campus.

I’m trying to figure out what the student life is actually like there, especially if I’d want a school with an active campus community.

Fordham is not generally considered a commuter school, but the experience can vary by campus.

Rose Hill in the Bronx tends to feel much more like a traditional residential campus. It has residence halls, Division I sports, a defined campus layout, and a stronger on-campus social scene. If you want the more classic college-community feel, this is usually the Fordham campus people mean.

Lincoln Center in Manhattan is more urban and can feel less traditional because it is smaller, vertical, and integrated into the city. Students still live on campus there, but social life is often split between campus events and New York itself.

It is true that Fordham has a noticeable number of commuters, especially because of its New York location. Some students do go home on weekends, and weekends may feel quieter than at a more isolated college town campus. But that does not make it a commuter school in the usual sense. There are still plenty of residential students, clubs, events, and campus life.

If active campus community is a priority, Rose Hill is probably the better fit. If you like the idea of a city-based experience where campus life blends with off-campus life, Lincoln Center can still work well.
