What are Fordham University’s main academic programs and strengths?

I’m a junior starting to build my college list, and Fordham keeps coming up because I like the idea of a school with strong academics in a big city.

I’m still exploring majors, so I’m trying to get a clear overview of what Fordham is especially known for academically and which programs seem strongest overall.

Fordham’s strongest academic areas are usually business, the liberal arts, and several pre-professional fields. The Gabelli School of Business is one of the biggest draws, especially for finance, accounting, marketing, and business analytics. Its New York City location helps a lot with internships and networking, which is a major part of why that program stands out.

In the liberal arts, Fordham is well regarded for political science, economics, English, history, philosophy, and theology. It has a strong Jesuit academic tradition, so classes often emphasize writing, discussion, ethics, and critical thinking. If you like the idea of a broad, rigorous core curriculum, that is one of Fordham’s defining academic features.

Other notable strengths include psychology, communications and media-related fields, international studies, and pre-law preparation. Fordham also has solid programs for biology and other sciences, and it is a common choice for students interested in pre-med or health-related paths, though it is not usually thought of first as a pure STEM powerhouse.
