Which is better for getting internships: USC or Georgia Tech?

The biggest practical tradeoff is that Georgia Tech provides a more engineering-centered recruiting ecosystem, while USC offers access to a broader Los Angeles network that is especially valuable for technology, startups, entertainment-adjacent work, and certain aerospace opportunities. For a conventional technical major such as computer science, engineering, or data-related fields, Georgia Tech’s employer relationships, large technical career fairs, and established co-op culture make internship searching unusually integrated into campus life.

Georgia Tech benefits from its location in Atlanta, a major hub for technology, logistics, finance, cybersecurity, healthcare, and engineering employers. Its students are highly visible to companies hiring technical interns, and the school’s cooperative education option can create a structured path to repeated work terms with an employer. That can be particularly useful for students who want hands-on engineering experience early and often.

USC has strong recruiting as well, with a large alumni presence in Southern California and meaningful access to companies in tech, aerospace, media, gaming, and startups. It may have an edge for someone intentionally pursuing areas such as software in entertainment, product roles, gaming, digital media, or startups in Los Angeles. USC’s private-school alumni network can also be a real advantage in networking-heavy searches.

For internship access in a broadly technical field, I would choose Georgia Tech because its recruiting infrastructure and employer reputation are more consistently centered on engineering and technical hiring. USC becomes the more compelling option when your target industry is closely tied to Los Angeles or when you value its wider cross-industry network as much as technical recruiting.
