UGA has the more constant, campus-wide sports atmosphere, centered on SEC football and the social ritual of fall Saturdays in Athens. Home football weekends at Sanford Stadium are major student events, with tailgates, red-and-black traditions, packed student sections, and a city that visibly revolves around the game. Basketball, baseball, gymnastics, and other teams also draw support, but football sets the overall tone of school spirit.

UGA fits a student who wants athletics woven into a large, energetic Southern campus experience. Even students who are not serious sports fans tend to know the chants, wear school colors, attend at least some games, and participate in game-day social life.
