Which has stronger school spirit: Tulane or UT Austin?

The biggest practical difference is scale: UT Austin’s spirit is built around massive, highly visible campus-wide traditions and major athletics, while Tulane’s is more intimate, social, and tied to a smaller student body and New Orleans culture. At UT, football Saturdays, the Longhorn Band, Bevo, the “Hook ’em” sign, and “The Eyes of Texas” create a level of shared ritual that is difficult for most private universities to match.

Tulane has an engaged student culture, particularly around Green Wave football, basketball, homecoming, Crawfest, Mardi Gras-related events, and the distinctive “Roll Wave” identity. But because Tulane is much smaller and located in a city with so many off-campus options, social life can feel less centered on campus and on sports than it does in Austin.

For school spirit in the traditional sense of loud game days, recognizable rituals, packed student sections, and a campus that rallies around its teams, UT Austin has the stronger atmosphere. Tulane may feel more appealing if you want spirited events within a close-knit private-school community, but UT is the clearer choice when school spirit is a major priority.
