For a student focused primarily on becoming a software engineer, Purdue is likely to provide the more direct and expansive CS-to-industry pipeline. Northwestern can produce equally strong individual outcomes, but students often need to be more intentional about using its smaller CS ecosystem and broader university resources.

Purdue’s practical advantage is recruiting volume. The university has extensive career-fair infrastructure, and a student body where internships, co-ops, technical interview preparation, and project teams are central parts of the culture. That can make it easier to find peers preparing for the same software engineering hiring process and to encounter employers seeking many technical candidates.
