Its smaller classes and residential campus can make informal conversations, office hours, and mentorship more accessible. The research ecosystem is less expansive than ETH’s, but an engaged student may find it easier to obtain meaningful responsibility rather than merely a peripheral lab role.

For an undergraduate whose priority is access to faculty-guided research from the first or second year, WashU is likely the more manageable path, particularly if you want an English-language program and close mentorship. Choose ETH Zurich when you are prepared for a demanding, German-language bachelor’s curriculum and want to place yourself in one of the world’s deepest computer science research environments, even if earning a research position may require more self-direction.
