Its proximity to major tech employers, digital-health organizations, and the University of Washington medical system also creates especially relevant internship and networking opportunities.

At UW, Informatics students can shape their study around areas such as data science, human-computer interaction, information architecture, cybersecurity, and related socio-technical questions. That structure is valuable for roles like product management, UX research or design, data and business analytics, health informatics, and technology consulting. Seattle also makes it easier to pursue academic-year internships, employer events, and project-based connections without leaving the region.

WashU can be compelling for a more specialized health-informatics path, particularly for a student who wants to combine computing with medicine, public health, biomedical research, or clinical data.
