Which has stronger school spirit: Vanderbilt or Penn State?

Penn State has the more noticeable, campus-wide school spirit, particularly around football. Its White Out games, major tailgating culture, and THON, the student-run dance marathon supporting pediatric cancer causes, create traditions that draw participation well beyond varsity athletes and dedicated sports fans. At Penn State, wearing blue and white and planning weekends around games is a visible part of the undergraduate experience.

Penn State is a strong match for a student who wants a large, energetic Big Ten atmosphere, packed football Saturdays, and traditions that can make a very large university feel unified. School pride is especially concentrated at University Park, where athletic events and long-standing rituals are central social anchors throughout the year.

Vanderbilt has genuine pride and an active student community, but its spirit tends to be less dominated by athletics. Students support the Commodores through traditions such as the “Anchor Down” chant, and there is enthusiasm around particular teams and events, especially when programs are performing well.
