Which is better for accessing New York City internships: Vanderbilt or Columbia?

Columbia is the clear choice for accessing New York City internships during the academic year because its Manhattan location puts students within commuting distance of employers across finance, media, technology, nonprofits, government, research, and the arts. Students can realistically interview, work part-time, attend networking events, and return to campus for classes on the same day. Columbia’s alumni network and career programming are also deeply embedded in the city’s professional ecosystem.

At Vanderbilt, students can build strong internship experience, but Nashville is the day-to-day center of recruiting and professional networking. Vanderbilt’s Career Center, alumni connections, and strong programs in fields such as business, healthcare, education, and entertainment can lead to excellent opportunities, including in New York, but NYC internships will more often require a summer stay, a remote arrangement, or intentional travel for interviews and events.

For a student whose priority is frequent, ongoing access to NYC internships throughout college, Columbia offers a substantial location advantage.
