Emory vs. UW–Madison: Which better prepares undergraduates for graduate school?

I’m choosing between Emory and the University of Wisconsin–Madison for college, and I’m mainly thinking about how well each school prepares students for graduate study. I’m less focused on overall rankings and more interested in the strength of undergraduate research, faculty mentorship, and academic opportunities that help students become competitive graduate applicants.

For the goal you described, Emory has a modest edge for most undergraduates because close mentorship is easier to turn into strong letters, meaningful research responsibility, and individualized academic guidance. Choose UW–Madison instead if its particular department, faculty research, or specialized academic options align substantially better with the graduate field you expect to pursue.
