Is Fordham or Emory better for getting internships in New York City?

Fordham offers the clearer advantage for securing New York City internships during the academic year because students can commute to employers while taking classes. Its Lincoln Center campus is in Manhattan, and even Rose Hill students have access to the city by subway. That proximity makes part-time, semester-long roles and in-person networking events much more practical than they are from Atlanta.

Fordham’s location is especially valuable in fields with large NYC internship markets, including finance, media, marketing, communications, nonprofits, law-related work, and the arts. A student can attend an interview, work a few weekday hours, or build a relationship with an employer without needing to relocate for the summer. The advantage is logistical as much as reputational: being nearby lets students apply to opportunities that expect regular office attendance.

Emory can still lead to strong NYC internships, particularly through its national alumni network, career programming, and summer recruiting. Emory students regularly pursue New York opportunities, but most will be summer roles or require deliberate networking and travel from Atlanta; semester internships in NYC are far less convenient. For a student whose priority is consistently gaining work experience in New York throughout college, Fordham’s physical access provides a meaningful edge, while Emory’s resources are more useful for targeting selective summer internships and post-graduation recruiting.
