Is the University of Florida or Fordham better for starting a career in New York?

For a student whose main goal is to start a career in New York immediately after graduation, Fordham usually offers the more direct path. Its Bronx and Lincoln Center campuses put students within commuting distance of internships, employer events, and alumni working across the city during the academic year.

Fordham fits students who want New York to be part of their college experience, not simply their post-college destination. The ability to intern during fall or spring, attend an evening networking event, or build relationships with supervisors before senior year can make a meaningful difference in a New York job search. Students who are proactive about internships and campus career programming can graduate with a local résumé and references.

The University of Florida can be an excellent choice for a student who wants a larger public-university environment, broader national reach, or a particularly strong program that fits their goals. UF has a large, active alumni base and respected programs. But a UF student targeting New York will need to create that access more intentionally through summer internships in the city, alumni outreach, and New York-focused recruiting trips.

For a career that depends heavily on early local networking, such as media, finance, advertising, real estate, fashion, or many nonprofit roles, Fordham’s location is a real practical advantage. For students pursuing fields where recruiting is more national or where UF offers a substantially stronger academic or financial fit, choosing UF does not close the door to New York, but it requires more deliberate planning.
