UVA vs. Florida State: Which is better for business career opportunities?

Florida State’s College of Business provides meaningful recruiting and internship access, particularly across Florida, but its on-campus reach is typically less extensive for the most competitive national business pathways.

For internships, UVA students benefit from structured recruiting for fields such as investment banking, consulting, corporate finance, accounting, and technology. McIntire’s undergraduate curriculum is entered after a separate application process during college, so an applicant should not treat admission to UVA as guaranteed admission to McIntire. UVA students who do not enter McIntire can still pursue business-related careers through economics, data-focused coursework, and campus recruiting, but the McIntire distinction matters.

FSU can be an excellent launch point for accounting, finance, sales, real estate, management, entrepreneurship, and careers with Florida employers or state government. Tallahassee gives students access to public-sector, policy, and government-adjacent internships, while Florida’s large economy creates opportunities in cities such as Tampa, Orlando, Miami, and Jacksonville. Students may need to be more proactive about pursuing internships beyond Tallahassee for certain private-sector fields.

For the broadest access to high-selectivity business recruiting and a nationally portable alumni network, UVA is the stronger choice, assuming the cost difference is manageable and you are comfortable with McIntire’s internal admission process. Florida State is a compelling alternative when it is substantially more affordable or when you expect to build your career in Florida, especially in accounting, commercial business, entrepreneurship, or government-related work.
