UGA vs. Michigan State: Which is better for a supply chain career?

Michigan State is the stronger choice for a student specifically committed to supply chain management. Its Broad College of Business offers a dedicated undergraduate Supply Chain Management major, rather than requiring students to approach the field mainly through a broader management degree. That focused curriculum makes it easier to build technical and business fluency in sourcing, logistics, operations, inventory, and analytics before recruiting begins.

MSU also has an established supply-chain recruiting ecosystem. The program’s relationships with employers in manufacturing, automotive, retail, consumer products, logistics, and consulting create access to internships and entry-level roles, particularly across the Midwest. Student involvement through the Supply Chain Management Association and career programming can add employer contact, case experience, and a network of peers pursuing the same field.

UGA can still lead to a strong supply chain career, especially for someone aiming to work in Atlanta or the Southeast. Through the Terry College of Business, students can pursue operations and supply chain coursework within the Management BBA, and Atlanta’s large logistics footprint offers meaningful internship possibilities. However, UGA’s pathway is less specialized at the undergraduate level than MSU’s dedicated major.

For supply chain as the central career goal, MSU provides a clearer academic identity, a deeper concentration of supply-chain-focused classmates and organizations, and a more direct recruiting pipeline. UGA becomes more compelling if location in Georgia and access to the Atlanta business market matter more than having a stand-alone supply chain degree.
