Which is better for undergraduate innovation and entrepreneurship opportunities: UGA or Arizona State?

Arizona State is the stronger choice for an undergraduate whose main priority is hands-on innovation, startup-building, and product development. Its J. Orin Edson Entrepreneurship + Innovation Institute supports students across majors, not only business students, through Venture Devils, venture mentoring, competitions, and funding-oriented programming. ASU’s location in the Phoenix metropolitan area also puts students near a large and growing network of startups, technology employers, investors, and incubators.

The biggest distinction is the scale and accessibility of ASU’s entrepreneurship infrastructure. Venture Devils is built around helping students test ideas, form teams, develop business models, and pursue ventures while enrolled, including options for early-stage projects rather than only polished companies. Programs such as InnovationSpace also give students opportunities to work on real product and sustainability challenges in interdisciplinary teams, which is particularly useful for someone interested in product development rather than solely founding a company.

UGA has meaningful opportunities, especially through the Terry College of Business and the Innovation District. Athens also has an entrepreneurial community, and UGA can be an appealing environment for students who want a more traditional campus experience while exploring a venture on the side. However, its startup ecosystem is smaller and less deeply connected to a major technology market than ASU’s Phoenix-area network.
