For a more traditional, high-energy American campus atmosphere, the University of Minnesota has the edge; UBC feels more international, outdoors-focused, and self-directed. Minnesota’s Twin Cities campus sits directly beside Minneapolis, while UBC’s Vancouver campus is a large, scenic peninsula campus near beaches, forests, and Pacific Northwest trails.

At Minnesota, Big Ten athletics, especially football and hockey, create visible school spirit through game days, student sections, tailgates, and maroon-and-gold campus traditions. Greek life is also more prominent than at UBC, although plenty of students socialize through residence halls, clubs, intramurals, and Minneapolis events without joining it.
