How does residential college life compare at Northwestern and Rice?

Rice’s residential colleges are a defining part of undergraduate life: every student is assigned to one of Rice’s colleges and keeps that affiliation throughout college. At Northwestern, residential colleges are smaller, opt-in living communities within a much broader housing system, so they can be meaningful but do not organize campus life for everyone.
