Is Yale harder to get into than Rice University?

Rice is also exceptionally difficult to enter, particularly for applicants interested in engineering, natural sciences, computer science, and pre-health pathways. Applying Early Decision to Rice can signal a firm first choice, but it is not a substitute for the academic strength and distinctive contribution expected of admitted students.

In a head-to-head comparison, Yale is typically the tougher admission overall because of the depth, breadth, and international scale of its applicant pool. That difference is not large enough to make Rice meaningfully predictable, though: a student who is plausible at Yale can be denied by Rice, and a student who is admitted to Rice can be denied by Yale.
