Which Has Better Campus Life: Tulane or the University of New Hampshire?

Tulane has the more distinctive and socially active campus life for most students, largely because its Uptown New Orleans setting makes the city part of everyday student culture. Tulane’s social calendar extends well beyond the campus gates, with live music, restaurants, festivals, Mardi Gras traditions, and student gatherings woven into the experience. Events such as Crawfest, Wave Weekend, and university programming around New Orleans culture give the year a recognizable local character.

At the same time, Tulane is not simply a city school where students disperse. Getting involved is typically straightforward for someone willing to attend involvement fairs, try clubs early, and use the active campus-event calendar. UNH offers a more traditional, campus-centered residential atmosphere in Durham. Wildcats hockey, Homecoming, outdoor recreation, and the school’s strong connection to New Hampshire’s lakes, mountains, and coastline can make student life feel especially cohesive for students who want weekends built around friends, athletics, and nearby outdoor activities. Its campus setting makes spontaneous dorm-based socializing and seeing familiar faces easier than at a university embedded in a major city.

UNH may be the more comfortable environment for a student seeking a classic New England college rhythm and a less distracting setting. But for breadth of social opportunities, memorable traditions tied to its location, and a campus culture that feels hard to replicate elsewhere, Tulane has the edge.
