Is the University of Florida or Florida State University harder to get into?

The University of Florida is generally harder to get into for undergraduate admission than Florida State University, especially for Florida residents applying to its main Gainesville campus. UF typically draws a larger volume of top academic applicants and has maintained a more selective overall admission profile. FSU is also highly selective and has become increasingly competitive, so it should not be treated as a safety for strong Florida students.

A student whose record is at the very top of a rigorous high-school curriculum, with exceptional grades, demanding coursework, and substantial involvement outside class, is more likely to view UF as the tougher admissions target. UF’s applicant pool is especially deep among students pursuing fields such as engineering, business, health-related study, and the sciences, although admission is not based on intended major alone for most applicants.

Treat UF as the more selective reach between the two and FSU as selective in its own right. The gap is not large enough to assume that admission to one predicts admission to the other; each evaluates the full application, including course rigor, academic performance, activities, and written responses.
