Should I choose Carnegie Mellon or RPI for cybersecurity?

I’m a high school senior deciding between Carnegie Mellon and RPI, and I’m interested in studying cybersecurity. I’m trying to understand which school would be the stronger overall fit for a student who wants rigorous academics and good preparation for a cybersecurity career.

The key difference is depth and visibility: CMU has a broader security-centered ecosystem and more nationally prominent cybersecurity research infrastructure, while RPI gives students a focused engineering education but requires more self-direction to assemble a comparably specialized security path. Unless cost, campus environment, or a particular RPI program is a decisive factor, CMU provides the stronger platform for rigorous cybersecurity preparation.
