Which nursing program is a better fit: Boston University or the University of San Francisco?

The biggest practical difference is that the University of San Francisco offers a direct undergraduate BSN leading toward RN licensure, while Boston University does not have a traditional pre-licensure undergraduate nursing program. At USF, nursing coursework, skills labs, simulation, and supervised clinical education are built into the degree; completing the program prepares graduates to apply for the NCLEX-RN. At BU, an undergraduate health-related major can be excellent preparation for health professions, but it is not the same as earning a nursing degree or qualifying directly for RN licensure.

BU may still appeal if you are not fully committed to nursing and would prefer broader academic options in areas such as health science, public health, rehabilitation sciences, or pre-health study. But choosing BU would likely mean completing a separate nursing program afterward, such as an accelerated BSN elsewhere, before you could become an RN. That adds time, applications, and tuition beyond a four-year bachelor’s degree.

For a high school senior whose stated goal is clinical nursing and RN licensure, the University of San Francisco is the better fit because it provides the credential and clinical pathway you need in one undergraduate program.
