Which undergraduate nursing program is stronger: Boston University or the University of Vermont?

For a student whose goal is to become a registered nurse through a four-year bachelor’s program, the University of Vermont is the clear fit because it offers a direct-entry Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Boston University does not currently offer a traditional undergraduate BSN program leading to initial RN licensure. UVM’s program is designed around nursing coursework, supervised clinical education, and preparation to take the NCLEX-RN after graduation.

UVM is particularly well suited to students who want a conventional nursing-school experience from the start of college. Its College of Nursing and Health Sciences provides clinical learning in varied care settings, alongside simulation-based practice and classroom instruction. The BSN program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, an important baseline credential for a nursing degree.

A BU undergraduate major would not itself qualify a student to sit for the RN licensing exam. A student choosing BU would need to complete a separate pre-licensure nursing program later, such as an accelerated BSN or entry-level master’s pathway, after earning their bachelor’s degree.
