Is Cornell or Vanderbilt better for a career in hotel management?

Cornell is the much more direct fit for a student committed to hotel management. Its Nolan School of Hotel Administration is one of the few undergraduate programs built specifically around hospitality, with coursework in hotel operations, food and beverage, real estate, finance, and service management.

Choose Cornell if you want to enter the industry with a specialized degree and a cohort of classmates pursuing similar careers. It is especially compelling for someone who already knows they want hotels rather than a broadly defined business career.

Vanderbilt can make sense for a student who wants a more traditional liberal arts or business-adjacent education and is not fully certain about hospitality. Vanderbilt does not offer an undergraduate hotel-management major comparable to Cornell’s.

That flexibility can be valuable for someone interested in the business side of hotels but also considering consulting, real estate, marketing, entertainment, or entrepreneurship.
