How do Clemson and Alabama compare for merit scholarship opportunities?

For a high-achieving student, the University of Alabama is typically the more favorable place to pursue substantial, predictable merit aid, especially for nonresidents.

At Alabama, qualifying students can receive automatic merit awards based on the academic credentials reported by the university’s scholarship deadline. The award level can be significant, and some of the strongest applicants may also be considered for additional competitive programs.

Clemson does award merit scholarships, but students should not assume that strong grades and scores will produce a large automatic award. South Carolina residents may have access to state-supported awards such as Palmetto Fellows or LIFE, which can materially improve Clemson’s affordability, but those programs have separate eligibility rules.
