Which offers a more immersive city-life experience for students: Emory or Fordham?

Fordham offers the more immersive city-life experience, particularly at its Lincoln Center campus in Manhattan. Even Fordham’s Rose Hill campus in the Bronx is woven into New York’s transit network, with nearby subway access and a Metro-North station, so students can reach neighborhoods, restaurants, cultural events, and internships without a car.

The campus distinction matters. Lincoln Center places students steps from Columbus Circle, Central Park, performing-arts venues, and the rest of Manhattan; city life is part of the daily routine rather than a weekend outing. Rose Hill feels more traditionally campus-based and residential, but Arthur Avenue, the Bronx, and the broader city remain readily accessible by train.

Emory’s Atlanta location provides substantial opportunities, especially in health care, business, public policy, and research, and nearby Decatur offers restaurants, coffee shops, and a walkable local scene. However, Emory’s main campus in Druid Hills is more self-contained and is not directly served by a rail station. Students often use university shuttles, buses, rideshares, or occasional car trips to get to other parts of Atlanta, which makes spontaneous city exploration less seamless than it is at Fordham.

For internships, both schools benefit from major metropolitan areas, but Fordham students can more easily build an internship into a normal weekday because of New York’s dense subway and commuter-rail system. At Emory, internships in central Atlanta are certainly feasible, but commuting typically requires more planning. For a college experience that feels continuously connected to urban neighborhoods and public transit, Fordham has the clearer edge.
