How does Cornell’s campus size compare with UT Austin’s?

Cornell’s Ithaca campus feels substantially more spread out than UT Austin’s main campus, especially because Cornell’s academic core sits on steep terrain around gorges. The acreage difference understates the practical contrast: Cornell walks often involve hills, stairs, bridges, and a more dispersed layout.

Cornell suits students who like a large, scenic, self-contained campus and do not mind planning extra time for cross-campus trips. Classes and resources are concentrated in recognizable areas, such as Arts Quad, Engineering, Ag Quad, and West Campus. Many students use buses for longer trips, particularly in bad weather or when traveling from North Campus to areas farther south.

UT Austin fits students who prefer a denser, flatter, more urban campus. Its academic buildings are tightly grouped around the central core. UT can still feel busy and large because of its student population and downtown setting, but it is easier to navigate on foot than Cornell. At Cornell, the distance is more likely to be the issue; at UT Austin, crowds, crossings, and city activity are more noticeable.
