Is Virginia Tech or UC San Diego better for an undergraduate biotech career?

I’m a high school senior deciding between Virginia Tech and UC San Diego, and I’m interested in studying biotechnology and eventually working in the field. Choose UC San Diego if you see yourself leveraging a dense biotech ecosystem for internships and possibly staying in California after graduation. Virginia Tech may suit you better if you value a collaborative engineering-oriented education, a larger residential campus community, and biotech applications beyond the pharmaceutical and startup-centered sector. For either school, the most important career move will be joining a lab or securing a relevant internship by sophomore year, not simply selecting the biotech-related major with the best title.
