Its Fort Collins location sits beside the Front Range foothills, with places such as Horsetooth Reservoir and Poudre Canyon close enough for frequent after-class or weekend outings. The city is notably bike-friendly, and students can build outdoor time into normal routines rather than reserving it only for occasional trips.

The biggest difference is terrain and proximity to mountain recreation. From CSU, hiking, trail running, climbing, skiing, whitewater, and mountain biking are all realistic parts of student life, while longer weekend trips can reach Rocky Mountain National Park and Colorado’s larger mountain areas.
