Which gives students better access to New York City internships: UVA or Fordham?

Fordham offers more direct access to New York City internships during the academic year. Its Lincoln Center campus is in Manhattan, and its Rose Hill campus in the Bronx is connected to the city by subway and Metro-North. That proximity makes it practical to interview, work part-time, attend networking events, and take semester-long internships with NYC employers while classes are in session.

Fordham’s alumni network is particularly useful in New York-based fields such as finance, media, communications, nonprofit work, law, government, healthcare, and the arts. Students can use career programming and school-specific connections, but the largest advantage is logistical.

UVA is the stronger fit for a student who wants a traditional residential college experience, broad national recruiting, and access to opportunities that may be based in many cities, including New York. UVA has a substantial alumni presence in NYC, and employers do recruit there, especially for business-oriented roles. However, Charlottesville is far enough from Manhattan that NYC internships are typically summer commitments, virtual roles, or opportunities pursued through a leave or semester-away arrangement rather than a regular weekly job during the school year.

For someone whose priority is consistently building an NYC résumé from first year onward, Fordham has the clear practical advantage. UVA can still lead to excellent New York internships, particularly through summer recruiting and alumni outreach, but it requires more intentional planning and travel rather than being embedded in the city’s daily professional ecosystem.
