Is USC or UT Dallas better for getting internships?

The main tradeoff is that USC offers a broader national alumni and employer network, especially for software, startups, entertainment tech, and West Coast roles, while UT Dallas gives you convenient access to the large Dallas-Fort Worth tech and corporate market at a substantially lower likely cost. For computer science, both schools can lead to strong internships, but the recruiting environments feel different. USC students benefit from the Viterbi School’s established industry relationships, active career programming, and a large alumni presence in Los Angeles, Silicon Valley, and other major tech hubs.

UT Dallas is located in Richardson, and its engineering and computer science students are close to employers across Dallas-Fort Worth. That can make it practical to pursue internships during the academic year, not only over the summer. Local opportunities span technology, telecom, defense, finance, consulting, and major corporate IT teams.

USC can create more built-in visibility for nationally competitive internships, particularly when you use its alumni network, student organizations, project teams, and Los Angeles connections aggressively. It also offers proximity to startups and companies working at the intersection of software, media, gaming, aerospace, and consumer technology. However, USC’s higher cost does not automatically translate into an internship offer; students still need solid technical preparation, projects, interview practice, and early applications.

For internships alone, USC has the edge in breadth of network and access to national opportunities. UT Dallas can be the smarter value choice if you expect to build your career in Texas or want to leverage the Dallas-Fort Worth market while keeping costs lower.
