Is Northeastern or Georgia Tech better for aerospace engineering?

For a student specifically committed to aerospace engineering, Georgia Tech is the clearer choice. It has the Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering, a dedicated undergraduate aerospace engineering major, and a curriculum built around aerodynamics, propulsion, flight mechanics, structures, and space systems. Northeastern is an excellent engineering school, but its undergraduate path is centered more on mechanical engineering, with aerospace-related options rather than the same stand-alone aerospace depth.

Georgia Tech also offers a more aerospace-focused peer community and project ecosystem. Students can pursue aerospace design teams, research in areas such as rotorcraft, space systems, hypersonics, and autonomous flight, and senior design work closely aligned with the field. Its Atlanta campus also places students within a large engineering and technology network.

Northeastern’s major advantage is its established co-op model. A mechanical engineering student who deliberately seeks aerospace placements can graduate with substantial professional experience, and the Boston location provides access to engineering, robotics, defense, and research employers. That can be especially appealing if you want to keep mechanical engineering or another adjacent industry as a realistic alternative.
