Auburn vs. Ohio State: Which Has Better Pre-Med Advising?

At Ohio State, pre-med students have access to pre-health advising alongside the Wexner Medical Center, major research activity, and a broad Columbus clinical network. That ecosystem can make it easier to find varied hospital, research, specialty-shadowing, and public-health opportunities without leaving the university area.

Ohio State’s size also means students need to be proactive. Pre-health advising is well established, but many students are pursuing medicine, so success depends on scheduling early, attending workshops, and deliberately building faculty and mentor relationships rather than expecting individualized outreach. It is particularly attractive for someone who wants research, academic medicine, or exposure to many health-care settings.

Auburn provides dedicated pre-health support for prerequisite planning and the medical-school application process, and its smaller overall environment can feel more navigable. Students can pursue clinical involvement through the Auburn-Opelika area, including East Alabama Medical Center, but the opportunities are less embedded in a university-owned human medical center.

For pre-med advising and the breadth of opportunities that support a medical-school application, Ohio State has the stronger infrastructure. Auburn can still prepare a disciplined student very well, especially one who values a smaller campus feel and is comfortable taking more initiative to create clinical and research connections.
