How should I compare Florida State and Carnegie Mellon for undergraduate AI?

For undergraduate AI specifically, Carnegie Mellon offers a substantially deeper and more established academic environment than Florida State. CMU’s School of Computer Science includes a dedicated Machine Learning Department, the Robotics Institute, and the Human-Computer Interaction Institute, giving undergraduates unusual access to AI-focused faculty, courses, seminars, and project communities. Florida State has a solid computer science program and relevant AI coursework, but its AI ecosystem is smaller and less specialized.

The curriculum is the clearest difference. At CMU, students can build an AI-centered path through computer science, machine learning, robotics, language technologies, computer vision, and related areas, with advanced offerings supported by departments devoted to those fields. FSU students can study machine learning and artificial intelligence within computer science, but should expect a broader CS degree experience rather than the same concentration of distinct AI subfields.
