How do Duke and MIT compare for STEM extracurricular opportunities?

I’m a high school junior interested in engineering and computer science, and I want to stay heavily involved in STEM clubs, research, and student projects in college. I’m deciding between Duke and MIT and want to understand which school offers a stronger overall environment for STEM extracurriculars.

MIT offers the more intense and wide-ranging overall environment for STEM extracurriculars, especially for a student who wants engineering and computer science to shape much of their campus life. At MIT, it is easier to find a large peer group whose default extracurricular activity is an ambitious technical project, and the volume of specialized engineering teams is hard to match. At Duke, STEM involvement is robust but exists within a more balanced campus culture where students often spread their time across a wider mix of academic, social, athletic, and preprofessional pursuits.
