Which offers better experiential learning opportunities: UIUC or Northeastern?

Its co-op program is built into the academic model, giving students the option to alternate full-time paid professional work with coursework rather than fitting a short internship into one summer. Northeastern’s co-op system is the clearest differentiator: students receive support through co-op advisors, employer relationships, and preparation courses, and many complete more than one work placement before graduating. That structure can make it easier to graduate with substantial workplace experience, especially for students who are proactive about searching and interviewing.

UIUC is exceptionally strong for undergraduate research, engineering design, computing, and project-based technical work. Students can join faculty labs, pursue research programs, contribute to large student organizations and competition teams, and access strong recruiting for internships, particularly in engineering, computer science, and business-related fields. Its research scale and technical resources may be more compelling for someone who wants to work closely with faculty or build deep expertise in a specific STEM area.
