Which college offers stronger undergraduate entrepreneurship support, Emory or UPenn?

I’m a high school senior interested in starting a company during college and want to compare Emory and UPenn based on the strength of their undergraduate entrepreneurship resources. I’m especially focused on how much support students generally receive for developing and launching a business.

UPenn offers the deeper and more established undergraduate entrepreneurship ecosystem, particularly for a student who wants to build a venture while drawing on a large pool of business, engineering, design, and investor connections. Wharton gives Penn unusual strength in startup finance, market strategy, and entrepreneurship coursework, while Penn’s Venture Lab, Weiss Tech House, and Pennovation network provide practical programming, mentoring, workspace, and venture-building opportunities. Students can also collaborate across schools, which is valuable when a company needs both technical development and business execution.

Penn fits a founder who wants a dense, fast-moving campus startup environment and is comfortable actively seeking out opportunities. Its scale means there are many clubs, competitions, alumni contacts, and specialized resources, but students need initiative to navigate them. A student developing a software, fintech, consumer, health-tech, or marketplace idea may find especially strong cross-disciplinary pathways there.

Emory can be an appealing setting for a student who prefers a smaller, more personal entrepreneurship community and wants close access to Atlanta’s growing business and startup scene. Emory’s Hatchery supports student innovation through programming, mentorship, and venture-development resources, and Goizueta Business School offers entrepreneurship-focused coursework and experiential opportunities. Emory students can also benefit from Atlanta connections in health care, public health, social impact, and business.

For launching a company during college, Penn has the clearer edge in breadth, name recognition within entrepreneurship, and the concentration of startup-specific infrastructure. Emory is still a credible choice for a self-directed student, especially one whose interests connect to social enterprise, health, or Atlanta, but its undergraduate entrepreneurship network is less extensive than Penn’s.
