Is Fordham better than UCSB for getting internships in New York City?

Fordham is the more practical choice for securing internships in New York City during college. Its Lincoln Center campus is in Manhattan, and its Rose Hill campus in the Bronx has direct access to the city by public transit, so students can realistically intern part-time during the academic year. UCSB students can absolutely reach New York opportunities, but most will need to target summer roles, remote work, or planned semester-away options.

The biggest advantage is day-to-day proximity. A Fordham student can attend an interview, networking event, or recurring internship shift in Manhattan without leaving campus for weeks at a time. That matters especially in fields where employers value in-person availability, including finance, media, communications, advertising, nonprofit work, law, and many business roles.

UCSB’s quarter system can make a standard semester-long internship less convenient, since its terms and breaks do not always match employers’ schedules. UCSB students often compensate by focusing on intensive summer internships, which can still be highly valuable but provide fewer chances to build relationships during the year.

UCSB has a strong alumni community and can support a New York job search, but its network is more naturally rooted in California and the broader West Coast. For a student already committed to building a New York-based resume before graduation, Fordham offers a clearer logistical and networking advantage.
