Campus setting is a meaningful difference. NC State is urban and embedded in Raleigh, with a more professional, industry-connected rhythm. UMass is in a classic college-town setting in western Massachusetts, with a more residential campus experience and access to the broader Five College social and academic community.

Let finances break a close tie. Compare four-year net cost, not just the first-year bill, and include expected housing increases, travel, scholarships that renew, and whether either school makes it easier for you to pursue paid internships or co-ops.
