Colgate can be the more effective pre-med environment for a student who thrives on close faculty relationships and individualized attention. Its smaller liberal-arts setting can make it easier to know professors well, seek sustained mentorship, and take on meaningful roles in a lab or campus organization rather than competing with a much larger pool of students. Colgate’s health-professions advising can help students plan prerequisites, pursue experiences, and prepare applications, but students may need to be more proactive about arranging clinical exposure and larger research opportunities beyond the immediate Hamilton area.
