Tulane offers the more immediately urban, off-campus lifestyle for a student who wants city life woven into daily college routines. Its Uptown New Orleans campus sits near Audubon Park and the restaurants, cafés, music venues, and shops along Magazine Street and Freret Street. Students can also use the St. Charles Avenue streetcar to reach the Garden District and downtown without needing a car.

New Orleans has a distinctive cultural calendar, with live music, festivals, local food, parades, and neighborhood events accessible beyond the campus boundary. Tulane still has a cohesive, green, enclosed-feeling campus, so students are not choosing between a traditional college setting and an active city.

WashU has an attractive campus and meaningful nearby options, but its setting feels more residential and campus-centered. Forest Park is directly adjacent, and the Delmar Loop, with restaurants, entertainment, and a MetroLink stop, is a short trip away. Clayton and parts of University City also provide dining and retail, but many students find that getting the fullest St. Louis experience requires more deliberate travel than at Tulane.
