WashU’s Danforth Campus sits beside Forest Park and near the Delmar Loop, Central West End, and Clayton, so students can reach restaurants, music venues, museums, and internships without feeling far from campus. Duke’s main campus is more insulated by design: its Gothic West Campus, East Campus, gardens, and athletic facilities create a strong internal campus environment, with Durham destinations feeling more separate.

At WashU, Forest Park is an unusually meaningful part of daily life. It contains major free cultural institutions, including the Saint Louis Art Museum and Missouri History Museum, along with trails and green space. The Delmar Loop is nearby for casual food, concerts, and shops, although many students use a shuttle, public transit, rideshare, or a bike rather than walking everywhere.
