Its academic pace is demanding, and the quarter system moves quickly, so it tends to suit students who are comfortable navigating a very large, busy campus with substantial independence.

Compare the actual four-year net cost, not the published price: include renewable scholarship requirements, housing, travel, health insurance, expected yearly tuition increases, and whether either family contribution would require borrowing. A UCLA degree may carry especially direct regional connections in California, but paying substantially more is not automatically justified if Alabama leaves you with little or no debt and offers the programs, mentoring, and career access you will actually use.
