Compare the four-year net price, not tuition alone, including scholarship renewal requirements, annual fee and housing increases, travel, health insurance, and the cost of staying in each city during summers. A scholarship that requires a particular GPA or full-time enrollment deserves special attention before you count it as guaranteed for four years.

For academics, look beyond the college name and compare your intended department. Ask each school for outcomes most relevant to your major: internship participation, employers that recruit from the department, undergraduate research access, study-abroad funding, and typical time to graduation. At Alabama, determine whether the scholarship package leaves enough room for experiences such as research, travel, or a semester abroad.
