UC San Diego offers exceptional academic opportunities, but its advantages may not justify significantly larger borrowing for every student.

UC San Diego has a deeper concentration of biomedical research, major research institutes, and proximity to San Diego’s biotechnology and health-science ecosystem. A student aiming for research, a PhD, biotech, or a highly research-intensive pre-health path may find more lab options, specialized coursework, and research connections there.
