Which is harder to get into, Virginia Tech or Wake Forest?

The biggest practical tradeoff is that Wake Forest is a smaller private university with a more selective overall applicant pool, while Virginia Tech is a large public university whose selectivity can vary more by major and by whether you are in-state or out-of-state. In a straightforward overall comparison, Wake Forest is generally harder to get into than Virginia Tech.

Part of the difference is who applies and how many seats each school has. Wake tends to draw a self-selecting pool of applicants aiming at highly selective private colleges, and it enrolls a much smaller class. Virginia Tech is still selective and very popular, but as a large public university it has broader enrollment needs and more variation across programs.

At Virginia Tech, the admissions picture can shift quite a bit depending on what you want to study.
