Which is better for finance careers, University of Pittsburgh or Fordham University?

I’m trying to decide between Pitt and Fordham and I’m interested in finance. Both seem like solid options, but I’m not sure which one has stronger outcomes for getting internships and starting a career in finance.

I want to pick the school that would give me the better overall path into the industry.

The biggest practical tradeoff is location versus campus ecosystem: Fordham gives you direct access to New York finance internships during the school year, while Pitt offers a bigger traditional university setting with solid business recruiting but less day-to-day proximity to Wall Street. For finance specifically, that location difference matters a lot because internships, networking events, and alumni coffee chats are easier to stack when you are in or near Manhattan.

Pitt can absolutely lead to finance careers, especially for students who are proactive, strong academically, and willing to hustle for internships in Pittsburgh, New York, or other cities. It has the advantages of a large research university, broader campus life, and often a stronger all-around college experience for students who want school spirit, more majors, and a bigger student body. But for front-office finance paths, the school’s distance from the main U.S. finance hub is a real disadvantage compared with Fordham.

Being in New York makes informational interviews, in-semester internships, and alumni networking much more practical, and those repeated touchpoints can snowball into better opportunities. In finance, access and frequency matter almost as much as coursework.

So if the question is narrowly which school gives you the better overall path into finance, I’d lean Fordham. Pitt is still a very respectable option, especially if it is meaningfully cheaper or you strongly prefer the campus environment, but Fordham usually offers the more direct runway into the industry.
